After getting a new TV set for the holidays, you’ll want to get it hooked up and set up to look its best. A few tweaks can make a huge difference, from choosing the right picture mode to fine-tuning video settings.

HDMI: The most common way to connect your TV to your decoder is via the digital audio and video port called HDMI. It is available on most modern flat screen televisions and is easy to install. It is important to inspect the terminals on the cable to ensure that they are inserted correctly. If the terminals are not inserted correctly, you can damage the port or the cable itself, which will result in poor video quality.

Wireless Video HDMI: If your device is too large to fit into an HDMI port, you can also use a wireless video HDMI transmitter and receiver to send a video signal over a Wi-Fi network to your TV. This connection can be used to stream videos from a Blu-ray player, DVD player or gaming console to your TV.
If you need to connect a DVD player to your decoder, you’ll need to connect it in “HDMi In” and “HDMi Out.” This is usually the same connection as used for a computer or laptop.
You can also use an HDMI-to-RCA adapter if your decoder has a composite video output. The adapter will convert the HDMI signal into an RCA signal, which will then be sent to your TV’s composite video input.
Before connecting your TV to your decoder, you’ll want to ensure that the two devices are properly connected to the wall power socket and the antenna is not damaged. A damaged aerial can cause the TV to stop working and can even make the RF picture fuzzy or have lines.
